Good morning! If you’re reading this today, I would like to ask you a question. How are you? No, like really…How ARE you? Most of the time, people will respond instinctively by saying, “I’m good!” But this time, I want you to really think about how you’re doing.
What feelings are you experiencing at this moment?
Are you happy? Sad? Encouraged? Excited? Angry?
How do others view you?
What do you think about yourself?
Today, to honor World Mental Health Day, we will explore what it means to have a healthy mind. Buckle up. This may take an unexpected turn.

“You need so much more than mental health or “well-being” in this era of discrimination, invisibility, and psychological warfare. You need an impermeable web of protection for your mind.”
– Rheeda Walker

What is mental health?
The World Health Organization defines mental health as, “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”
Is this a surprise? I was definitely surprised when I first read the definition. For some reason, our society paints a false picture of mental health to make it seem like you are abnormal if you experience mental health issues.
Gratefulness always has a positive outcome since it relieves your mind of suffering and agony. When you’re The truth of the matter is, if you’ve ever been unable to deal with stress, you had a mental health issue. If you’ve ever felt unproductive, you’ve had a mental health issue. Have you ever felt like you couldn’t contribute to others? Yep, that’s a mental health issue also. I’m saying all this to say, everyone faces battles with mental health.
Today, we will break down the World Health Organization’s definition of mental health and provide tips to encourage growth.
1. An Individual Realizes His Or Her Own Abilities
There have been numerous Blimish emails about self-awareness and confidence, but one can always use a reminder. God made you unique and gave you the tools to pursue your purpose here on Earth. However, the work to steward your abilities is up to you. Once you realize you are capable of doing anything you put your mind to, never forget it. Times will get hard, but as long as your will to win remains intact, you will overcome.
2. An Individual Can Cope With The Normal Stresses Of Life
There is a keyword here that’s important to note: normal. The stress you may experience is normal. Everyone has to deal with stress, but not everyone is able to deal with it in a healthy way. For tips on dealing with stress, review a previous Blimish email titled, “If It all falls down, just pick it back up.”
3. An Individual Can Work Productively And Fruitfully
Productivity is key when you have a calling on your life. There is work to be done. Whatever idea you have stirring in your heart, here is the confirmation you need to start taking action on it. Remember that once you start taking action, you must remain consistent. Here are some previous tips we’ve written about consistency, “How To Stay Consistent”.
4. An Individual Is Able To Make A Contribution To His Or Her Community
Like we’ve stated before, others are waiting on you. That shouldn’t create any pressure, it should only ignite a sense of responsibility. You have a purpose, and your purpose will impact others. By reading these emails weekly, you are making steps in the right direction. Continue to learn and continue to build. You are on your way.
Keep going!
