Good afternoon! How was your first week of the year? Did you get off to a good start? Or did you have a few good days and go right back to your old ways?
As I write this email, I am sitting on a plane at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta Airport. The boarding process was hectic. People were rushing to scan their boarding passes and board the plane. After noticing the craziness, the delta employee announced over the intercom, “If you are not in the section I called, please clear the pathway so people can board the plane. I promise the plane will not leave without you.”
Once I heard him say that, I had a revelation, “Your destination is not going anywhere. Rushing to get there will only lead to madness.”
Let’s unpack this….

“Slow and steady wins the race, not the person who wants to climb the whole stairs in one stride.”
– Michael Bassey Johnson

When you rush your process (or any process), it not only causes mental stress, it leads to a rushed outcome.
Here are three ways to slow down and take your time en route to your destination.
1. Be Present/Aware
As humans, we can live in the present moment without experiencing it. Our minds have the power to take us to new places through thoughts and feelings. Sometimes this may be beneficial, but it sometimes leads to being disconnected from the present moment. An easy way to practice awareness in the present moment is to ask yourself, “what am I feeling right now in this very moment and why?”
2. Enjoy the View
What do you see right now at this very moment? What is beautiful about it?
When you know your destination, it’s easy to imagine the view. But what is the view you have right now? Acknowledging the beauty in your current view awakens a new level of gratitude. It also challenges you to think outside the box and look at your reality from a new perspective.
3. Know You Are Not Alone in Your Experience
Lastly, look around you and notice the people in your life. No matter where you are in the world right now, there are probably other people there also. That is a beautiful thing. It’s a sign that you’re not alone on your journey. Even if you don’t like the people around you, their presence can be a constant reminder that life is a blessing, and as long as we have life, we have an opportunity to do something great. Every person has their own destination and their own divine timing. Avoiding the pressure to rush the process using these three methods above will hopefully help you live in the moment with gratitude.
This year will be your best year.
Keep going!
