3 Tools for Creating Good Habits

Habits, whether good or bad, compound with time. Productivity, knowledge, and relationships are examples of positive compounding Stress, evil thoughts, and anger are examples of negative habits.

A habit is a pattern of action that the brain has learned to automate because it is enjoyable. Habits exist as a means of assisting you in conserving energy.

In a study with cats, psychologist Edward Thorndike discovered that when certain activities are rewarding, they are repeated. However, when habits cause negative effects, they are avoided.

Last year, we sent an email titled, “It’s the little things,” which discusses three small actions you can take to go from good to great. Today’s email will cover three tips for creating good habits.

“Good habits, once established are just as hard to break as are bad habits.”

– Robert Puller

1. Awareness

Because behavior change begins with awareness, you must become aware of your habits. Consider getting your driver’s license. You are hyper-aware of every detail and find it difficult to multitask. Driving, on the other hand, becomes intuitive with practice, and you may execute many commands at once.

2. Habit Stacking

Habit stacking requires you to pair habits that are compatible with each other, especially a new habit with an existing habit. A whole chain of habits can form from nailing down the fundamentals of habit stacking. For example, you can attach your morning coffee to reading the news.

3. Create Visual Cues

The sensory nerve system is how humans perceive the world. Vision is the most powerful of all senses. In humans, sight occupies 10 million of the 11 million sensory receptors. You can design an atmosphere in which you can see what you want.

Good habits can be promoted using the same technique that supports negative behaviors. When there are several triggers for the habit in your environment, it is more likely to form.

Scientists have discovered that persons with excellent self–control have organized their life to avoid cues that could cause them to lose control.

Rearrange your surroundings to achieve the outcomes you desire in your life.

Keep going!
